A message from the President

Dear visitor,

The International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC) is a worldwide organization of surgeons from all parts of the world. One of the objectives of the International Society of Surgery is to train surgeons from both developing and developed countries by organizing workshops, webinars, and other teaching activities. The ISS/SIC organizes the International Surgical Week every two years, the most recent one was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August 2024, bringing together over 1600 surgeons and surgical trainees from across the globe.

However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for young surgeons from low-income countries to attend such conferences. The ISS Foundation was set up to support these young surgeons in attending a world-class conference so they can bring back advances in surgical management to their countries.

In addition to providing support to young surgical trainees, ISS/SIC has launched a Future Surgeons Programme, which aims to bring together young medical students and junior doctors interested in a surgical career from all parts of the world, empowering them to become future surgical leaders.

Between these conferences, ISS/SIC, through its member organizations, runs workshops and webinars for surgeons from all parts of the world.

The ISS Foundation needs your support to sustain these educational activities.

Thank you very much.

Cheng-Har Yip, President

Travel Scholar Reception ISW 2024

ISW2024_02_Monday_138.jpg

ISW2024 in Kuala Lumpur welcomed 41 exceptional Travel Scholars from across the globe, representing 15 countries, of which 10 out of the 41 Travel Scholars were supported by ISSF.

Afghanistan, Australia, Argentina, Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, India, Japan, Laos, Nepal, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, and the USA.

For these scholars, attending ISW2024 was a pivotal moment. It offered not only access to the latest global advancements in surgical care and education, but also the chance to connect with peers and mentors committed to improving surgical systems worldwide. The experience was especially impactful as they return to their home countries equipped with new knowledge, skills, and a strengthened vision for the future of surgery.

We celebrate their contributions and look forward to the impact they will continue to make in their home countries and beyond.
